A Japanese-style hamburg steak braised slowly in tomato sauce until tender and full of flavour. The Slow Cook setting on the BRUNO Mini Digital Rice Cooker does the gentle simmering, so the patties stay soft and juicy while the sauce takes on all their savoury richness. A cosy one-pot dinner.
Ingredients
- 200g beef and pork mince (mixed)
- 1/4 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp panko breadcrumbs
- 2 tbsp milk
- Salt and pepper
- Pinch of nutmeg
- 50g oyster mushrooms (or any mushrooms you like), torn
- Italian parsley, to garnish
- For the sauce: 200g tomato pasta sauce
- 50ml water
- Salt and pepper
- 1 bay leaf
Method
- Soak the panko in the milk. In a bowl mix it with the mince, onion, salt, pepper and nutmeg, then shape into 6-8 small patties about 6cm across.
- Pour the tomato sauce and water into the rice-cooker inner pot, season with a little salt and pepper and drop in the bay leaf. Nestle the patties and the mushrooms into the sauce.
- Set the Slow Cook setting to 1 hour and let it simmer.
- When the time is up, taste and adjust with salt and pepper. Plate the patties, spoon over the sauce and scatter with Italian parsley.
Tip: Soaking the panko in milk first is what keeps the patties light and tender. As they braise, the meat releases its savoury juices into the tomato sauce, so the sauce turns deep and rich by the end.
