Description

TOSHIBA Vacuum & Pressure IH Rice Cooker | RC-DS Series

The same vacuum and pressure system as the RC-DX, with a 5 mm copper-backed pot.

The RC-DS gives you Toshiba's vacuum soaking and automatic pressure cooking at a lower price than the RC-DX. The pot is 5 mm rather than 7 mm and backed with copper instead of binchotan coating, and the pressure band is narrower at 0.7–1.05 atmospheres. In exchange you get a longer standard keep-warm cycle — 24 hours against the RC-DX's 12 — alongside the same 40-hour vacuum keep warm.

Every key is labelled in English. The control panel carries English wording alongside the Chinese — KEEP WARM, TIMER, MENU, START, OFF/CANCEL — and the menu names on the display read in English too. A full English owner’s manual is supplied.

Product Features:

  • Vacuum soaking: air is pumped out of the inner pot so water reaches the core of the grain.
  • Automatic pressure cooking, 0.7–1.05 atm, adjusted by programme.
  • 5 mm inner pot: diamond and titanium coating inside, copper coating outside for fast, even heat.
  • Wave-formed pot base to strengthen convection while boiling.
  • 40-hour vacuum keep warm plus a 24-hour standard keep-warm cycle.
  • 7 rice menus and 3 special menus (steam, cake, soup).
  • LCD panel with built-in clock and two timer presets.
  • Two colours in both sizes — gold or red.
  • Made in Japan.

Product Care

Cleaning and Maintenance:

  • Wash the inner pot, inner lid and steam vent after every use; they are all removable.
  • Check the vacuum air inlet and outlet and the lid packing are clear — if anything is trapped there the cooker cannot draw a vacuum.
  • Wipe the outer body and control panel with a soft, damp cloth — never an abrasive pad.
  • Do not use metal utensils, whisks or scouring brushes inside the pot: the non-stick coating is what keeps rice from catching.
  • Never place the inner pot on a hob or in a microwave.
  • Leave the lid open for a while after cooking so the cavity dries out.
FAQ
How is this different from the RC-DX?

Both use the same vacuum pump and pressure cooking. The RC-DX has a thicker 7 mm binchotan-coated pot and a wider pressure band; the RC-DS uses a 5 mm copper-backed pot and costs less. The RC-DS actually offers a longer standard keep-warm cycle, at 24 hours against 12.

Is the panel in Chinese?

It is labelled in both. Every key carries English wording and the display shows menu names in English alongside the Chinese. A full English owner’s manual is supplied.

What is the red one?

Both sizes come in gold or red, so there are four combinations in all. The finish is purely cosmetic — the cooker is identical underneath.

Do I need to soak brown rice first?

No. Vacuum soaking draws water into the grain before heating starts, and the pressure programme finishes the job, so brown rice and mixed grains cook through without standing time.

Will it work on UK mains?

Yes. It is rated 220V~ 50–60Hz, which the UK 230V/50Hz supply meets. No transformer is required.

Vacuum Soaking Technology

A vacuum pump removes the air from the inner pot so water permeates the core of each grain rather than merely surrounding it.

Vacuum Soaking Technology

Automatic Pressure Cooking

Pressure release is adjusted automatically by mode, making rice viscous and glossy. Brown rice and grains turn out mellow without soaking.

5mm Inner Pot

Diamond and titanium coating inside, copper coating outside — a 60° rounded base and multiple coating layers for fast, even heat transfer.

5mm Inner Pot

Wave Design at the Bottom of the Inner Pot

The waved base increases bubbling and heat convection, so the rice is heated evenly throughout.

IH — Heated Evenly

Induction heating brings the pot itself up to temperature, giving even heat around the whole body of rice.
